Johann Olav Koss, 29 October 1968
In the first part of the nineties four allround skaters were head above
the rest, namely Falko Zandstra, Roberto Sighel,
Rintje Ritsma
and Johann Olav Koss. After the 1994 olympics one of these stars
shines more brightly than the others. After his three gold medals, all obtained
through new world records, Johann Olav Koss surely has earned his place among
the alltime greatest speed skaters, the other three being
Oscar Mathisen,
Ard Schenk and
Eric Heiden.
After the 1994-season Koss retired after being world champion 1990, 1991 and
1994 and european champion 1991. He also took a gold medal at the 1992
olympics. He is now devoting his time to humanitarian aid.
