Evert Stenlund, Johannesen
Knut Johannesen, 6 November 1933
After the first Medeo-era Knut "Kuppern" Johannesen was the one who brought the
speed skating focus back to Norway. At the Olympic Games in Squaw Valley 1960 he
literally demolished the previous world record at 10000 meters with 15.46.6 in
the fourth pair, and became the first skater to break the 16-minutes limit.
Afterwards also Viktor Kositsjkin's 15.49.2, two pairs later, was below
this limit. "Kuppern" was world champion 1957 and 1964 and european champion
1959 and 1960. Besides his gold medal during the 1960 olympics he also took gold
in 1964.
