Chad Hedrick, 17 April 1977

After a long period of Dutch domination on the longer distances, skaters from other nations started to show what they were made of. The medals during the 2006 Olympics in Torino were up for grabs. The Americans had skaters like Chad Hedrick and Shani Davis, the Italians had Enrico Fabris, the Norwegians had Øystein Grødum, Lasse Sætre and Eskil Ervik, and the Dutch had Sven Kramer, Bob de Jong and Carl Verheyen, just to mention a few. Hedrick, Davis, Fabris and de Jong took one gold each. Besides his 5000 m gold Chad also got silver on 10000 m and a bronze on 1500m. After the 2006 season Adelskalendern was topped by Hedrick, Davis and Fabris. He also participated in the Vancouver Olympics 2010, where his performance on the 1000 m secured him the bronze medal.
The Texan Chad Hedrick was originally an inline champion who made his debut on the ice rink in February 2003. He quickly showed that his abilities were enormous also on the ice.
