Shani Davis, 13 August 1982
After a successful weekend in Salt Lake City March 2009, Davis squeezed ahead of
Sven Kramer to head the Adelskalendern. Davis was first
heard of as a short tracker when he became the national Junior Short Track Champion
in 2001 and 2002. After that he has tried to compete in both disciplines. Without
question his main accomplishments have come on the long track arena. In the Olympics
in Turin 2006 he won gold on 1000 m and silver on 1500 m. In the 2010 Olympics in
Vancouver he managed to repeat the same thing. He became World Allround Champion
in 2005 and 2006 and World Sprint Champion in 2009, thereby being the second male
skater to become World Champion in both allround and sprint (the first one was
Eric Heiden). To date, he also has 7 individual gold medals
from Single Distance World Championships (1000 and 1500m).
