Peder Østlund, 7 May 1872
Peder Østlund was, together with
Jaap Eden, the best
skater at the turn of the century. He was world champion 1898 and 1899, european
champion 1899 and 1900, and was the world
record holder on all distances except on 5000 meters where he wasn't even
holding the Norwegian record. This record was held by Einar Halvorsen
on 8.39.6 from Hamar 25 February 1894. Østlund ended his career after
the 1900-season. Brother Ole was also a successful skater. Østlund died
in 1939.
